Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates the tool. That company processes the query and returns its result. Northampton County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
A message sent by email may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is compelled by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Ordinary server and analytics records may capture technical details when a page loads:
- Device IP address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device class
- Visited pages and time spent
- Referring site, when supplied
- Date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic and site performance. Analytics can show which pages receive visits and where sessions end. Visitors may block cookies through browser settings, although some functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Operate, secure, and speed up the site
- Route a submitted query to its selected search provider
- Measure which pages serve visitors well
- Find and repair technical faults
- Display advertising that may reflect user interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Northampton County Criminal History does not compile, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records maintained by the Northampton County Clerk and Sheriff, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, NCDAC, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by that provider's privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices. Review those terms before submitting a query because this policy does not control the provider.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Northampton County offices, North Carolina courts and agencies, legal resources, or independent search services. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination's privacy policy applies. Advertising partners may also use their own systems to measure activity across sites.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- A search partner handling a query
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving page ads
- A government office acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for data in the site's control. No online transmission or storage method is completely secure, so absolute protection cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted when the operator becomes aware of it.
Your Data Rights
North Carolina law, including the Unfair or Deceptive Trade Practices Act at G.S. 75-1.1, may provide remedies for unlawful consumer practices. The North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, governs records held by public agencies, while G.S. 132-1.4 sets distinct rules for criminal investigation and arrest information. Those public-record laws do not turn visitor data held by this private site into a government record. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request a copy of personal data held by the operator
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Request deletion of personal data
- Opt out of processing where a legal right applies
